Cross Country

Who: Middle school and High School boys and girls. High School (9th -12th) and Middle School (6th-8th) grades may fully practice and compete in official races throughout the season.

When: Fall (late August-early November). Meets are usually on Saturdays and Wednesdays or Thursdays. Practice times will be directly after school on Monday through Wednesday, 6:30-7:30am on Thursday, and at home on Friday and Saturday unless otherwise directed by captains or coaches.

What: Endurance! Mental toughness and physically lean conditioning are our specialties. Our meet race distances for HS is 5 kilometers and for MS it is 3 kilometers. It is a heavy endurance sport where one’s mental grit and tough spirit are just as critical as physical ability, if not more important. We are comrades and we are having a great time traveling and practicing together. Almost every practice is a dynamic, fast paced urban tour through town to local training spots or just exploring various parts of Marysville. We regularly add into our schedule things like hikes, interval workouts at least once a week, extra activities like swimming and camping, and trips to the grocery store.

Mileage: For HS and MS runners, our starting mileage for the season is around 20-30 miles per week as a normal target for entry level runners. We will peak at 40-60 miles per week.

Requirements:

  • $100 sports fee (due 2 weeks after season start)
  • Sports physical (due prior to first practice, good for 2 years)
  • Signed a Raggant Conduct form and Academic Expectations form
  • Athletes cannot compete if they have 1 F or 3 D’s at weekly grade check times.
  • 7 practices required prior to first contest/game
  • Equipment:  Running shoes

Why: XC is a blast and it is quite formative. The soul and body work together; health in one area overlap into the other and a fresh mind and spirit may result from a conditioned physique. We are expanding the liberal education of young people showing them how to travel long distances on foot, fight to outrun other students on race day, and share the love of Jesus with other each other in and outside of our student body.

NULLA TENACI INVIA EST VIA! FOR THE TENACIOUS, NO ROAD IS IMPASSIBLE!

How: Go to Value Village, buy some shoes and maybe a funky hat or socks, do a few lunges, keep your grades up, sign up with Mr. Liden and come enjoy life on the road with us!
