Athletics Program

Dear ECS Community,

We have reached a milestone in our school’s history: the offering of sports!

Though we have always wanted to offer sports in some form at ECS, bandwidth, personnel, and logistics have posed a challenge; a significant step forward was the school being recognized last year as a private school and thus able to join the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).

Along those lines, we will join the NW1B League in the WIAA District I (basically Seattle north) this Fall, and although we love most sports and would enjoy offering them all, at this point we are planning to launch Secondary Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country in the Fall and Golf in the Spring.

Our first sport will be Cross Country. Here are some details:

Cross Country

What: Cross-Country for young men and women in 9th – 12th grade. There may be a possibility of 7th and 8th graders practicing with the team, though they would not be allowed to compete.

Per equipment, each runner should have a good pair of running shoes and will be asked to pay a Sports Fee of $100 to help defray the costs of meet entries, uniforms, etc. (If this poses a hardship, please reach out to Mr. Liden). Please make checks payable to ECS and write “Cross-Country” in the memo line (or on the envelope, if paying cash). Submit your Sports Fee to Mrs. Bone by Monday, September 11th.

When: Practices will begin as soon as possible, but we heartily encourage any prospective competitors to start running now. Note: a Sports Physical must be on file with Mr. Liden prior to any practices counting towards the minimum practice requirement of ten.

Depending on availability, the team will compete in a handful of meets from September – November, with practices four days per week immediately after school.

How: Mr. Carl DeyArmin will be our head coach, and Mr. David Liden has agreed to assist him. Mrs. DeyArmin will also be helping with communication and logistics.

Why: Running is downright Classical! Haven’t you read Herodotus?

What next? Three things!

  1. Communicate your interest to Mr. Liden: dliden@evangelcs.org.
  2. Get those sports physicals completed and filed with Mr. Liden.
  3. Pay your sports fee by September 11.
  4. Get running!
  5. Pray for the success of this program!
